KFPZ radio hosts memorial benefit in honor of Ron Green
Lake County Community Radio is hosting a memorial benefit concert on October 1 for long time radio personality Ron Green.
Join the KPFZ family for what is sure to be a memorable and fun event dubbed by the organizers, "For the Love of Ron Green." It's an outdoor concert so bring your lawn chairs, put on your dancing shoes and plan on having a good time in Ron's memory. Concert admission is free.
Green is lovingly remembered for his radio show, "The Philadelphia Lawyer," a listener and member favorite on KPFZ. Green used his show as a platform for his advocacy of civil rights and justice.
As a Director on the LCCR Board of Directors Ron advocated for community radio through the many fund-raising concerts he produced, most recently the Moonalice and The Barry Melton concerts. "It is with greatful hearts that we honor Ron's legacy with a special event in his memory," said LCCR Board President Olga Steele.
The concert is a memorial and celebration of Green's life. He made countless contributions to the community he loved, especially community radio. Green's wife Linda Lake and their family will attend along with Green's many radio friends and listeners and those he helped over the years prior to retiring from his law practice. "It will be a re-union of sorts," Linda said. "A time to reconnect with old friends and make new ones. Ron knew so many people from different walks of life."
Music for the concert will be provided by The Andre Williams Band and Beatz Werkin. Food by La Chilanguita and wine by Cache Creek Vineyards and Winery may be purchased on site. Commemorative T-Shirts will be sold by KPFZ and donations to the Ron Green Memorial Fund are gratefully accepted at the gate or by mail to: LCCR, Inc., P.O. Box 466, Lakeport, Ca 95453. Proceeds will go to the Ron Green Memorial Fund to support KPFZ.
Cache Creek Vineyards and Winery is located on 250 New Long Valley Road, off Highway 20 in Clearlake Oaks. Gates open at 1 pm and the music starts at 1:30 pm. Please leave pets at home.
"We want to thank the musicians, the Cache Creek family and La Chilanguita for their generosity in supporting this event," said LCCR VP, Dennis "Pop" Booth.
A few tables are available for purchase. For more information leave a message at the KPFZ office, 707-263-3640 or text 916-849-8170 and someone will get back to you.

Town hall to address homelessness and mental health
The Lakeport Police Department, City of Lakeport, Lake County Behavioral Health and Lake Family Resource Center are partnering to conduct a Town Hall meeting to address the homelessness and mental illness crisis in our community.
The event will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 6 to 8 p.m., in the Soper Reese Theatre, 275 S. Main Street, Lakeport.
The intent of the public meeting is to engage with the community, hear your questions and address your concerns. Homelessness and mental illness are complex issues requiring the collaboration of agencies and the community.
The agenda will include an overview of legislative and voter changes to criminal justice laws over the past decade that impact treatment of individuals, response to mental illness locally, and the constraints faced by agencies in rural areas.
Presenters will discuss the status of the crisis responder program operated cooperatively by Lakeport Police and LFRC.
This call for action in seeking solutions will include a survey for public feedback. Plan to attend this important town hall event to share your input.
Please contact Chief Brad Rasmussen at the Lakeport Police Department at (707) 263-5491.

McGuire's signature aggravated arson bill awaits Governor's signature
The alarm couldn't be louder. California is facing unprecedented, destructive wildfires – 14 of the largest 20 wildfires in California history occurred just in the last decade. Unbelievably, some incredibly destructive wildfires have been set by arsonists including the Clayton Fire in Lake County, which destroyed 188 homes, and the Esperanza Fire, which claimed the lives of five firefighters in Southern California.
Senate President Designee Mike McGuire's critically impactful legislation, SB 281, will throw the book at individuals who are convicted of aggravated arson.
This is an issue that McGuire has championed for years.
The bill passed both the Senate and the Assembly and it's now headed to the Governor's desk.
"An aggravated arson charge is reserved for the worst of the worst – the most heinous arsonists who exhibit specific intent to inflict damage and destruction in our communities or who are a continuing threat to society. We need to ensure this groundbreaking public safety measure is signed into law and we'll be fighting alongside first responders and District Attorneys from across the Golden State to get this job done," Senator Mike McGuire said.
