THere was a lot ob bird action at Minto-Brown mid-morning. The sun-drenched forest edge along the Willamette Sloiugh and its attendant marsh was alive with feeding feathered friends--three species of flycatcher (not any a phoebe) was unexpected, but migration is a-wing, rather than merely afoot. As i stood in a shaded opoening beneath the canopy, a Pac-slope fleew right at me landed on small tree about twelve feet away, looked about and vanished before I could even raise my camera. The sparrows were mostly youngsters, acting bedazzled and befuddled.
This has been a successful breeding season for many water-dependent species at Malheur NWR. And now migrant shorebirds abound--click here for fine blog by shorebird count volunteer.
