Today is the first day of Fall, or Autumn. We tend to call it Fall in our little corner of Texas. We finally got some rain with the last round of storms and there is 2.5" of water in the rain gauge. We have another storm system due tonight and we still need the rain.
The Fishknits Ludlow is coming along nicely and I'm almost ready to start the wide border with color 'B'. I decided on the original four repeats of the stripe sequence instead of the five I used on the Tusken Knits Ludlow because I don't have extra skeins of the Fishknits yarns. But I am adding another section of the semi-solid color 'A' before I begin the border with color 'B' and I will probably knit a few extra rows on the border depending on how much yarn I have.
I'm enjoying watching reruns of 'New Tricks' on streaming video this afternoon while I work on the shawl. We had a big salad for a rather late lunch and it was lovely. Fresh romaine, radish, English cucumber, red onion and cubed pieces of extra-sharp, white cheddar. Drizzle a little balsamic vinegar and olive oil over the top and it was perfect.
My knee was bothering me a lot yesterday after being on my feet quite a while so I gave it one more try at sleeping with the ankle brace on and managed to sleep the whole night without taking it off. I decided to wear it while I sit with my feet up and knit. The brace helps if I can keep it on and not slipping off. Wearing a sock seems to keep it from slipping and I'm hoping to get more relief from the plantar fasciitis without getting injections in my heel. Ugh. I can switch off and wear it on my left foot as well so that is good.
After I originally broke my left ankle I had terrible problems with plantar fasciitis but it's been awhile since it bothered me. I think my main problem is not enough of the right kind of exercise, aka walking, during the day. Stretching exercises can help and wearing the brace while I sit with my feet up is a good idea.
I've lost a total of 21 lbs since the first of June and I'm hoping to get closer to my goal by the end of the year. I really, really want to get below 200 and I only have 13 lbs to go now. Yay!
It's getting close to 4 pm here and I've got home made frozen dinners in the freezer for later. We can choose from chopped steak, chicken and noodles or spaghetti and meat sauce. I need to buy a beef roast to cook in the crock pot and make up a few more meals to freeze. I can add new potatoes, red onion and carrots to the crock pot and toss in a few bay leaves and cayenne pepper, salt and black pepper.
This time of year I like to keep baking apples on hand for stewed or baked apples. We keep Red Delicious apples for snacks but you can't beat Granny Smith for baking. I could make up several servings of apple desserts and freeze that as well. We are both doing well staying away from all the sweets and junk we were eating and we enjoy splitting an orange and an apple between us in the afternoons, between lunch and dinner.
Time to get back to my knitting and my 'New Tricks' episode. Brian has gone off his meds and is taking natural remedies for his emotional/mental disorder and is about ready to blow, any minute. Alun Armstrong does a good job with that part and I enjoy the show a lot. There are several other familiar faces in this episode about trade unions, four other actors from Midsomer Murders episodes and at least one from a couple of Doctor Who episodes.
Hope your Saturday evening is a good one, ya'll. Stay safe. Stay cool. Pray for rain for Texas! God bless.
