BLUE LAKES - The bass fishing on the upper Blue Lake has continued to be fair. A couple anglers have been catching a few throwing top water lures like a PopR or a Bill Dance Spittin' Image. The best bite is during the early morning hours and the last hour of daylight. Some trout are still being caught trolling or slow draggin' a night crawler along the bottom.
Sorry to say still no sign of a California Department of Fish and Game stock scheduled. Not sure what the problem is ? It has been 3 months since Blue Lakes has been stocked with trout! Gosh, it's not like we don't pay enough for a fishing license now a days, huh?
CLEAR LAKE - The lake has continued to get in better and better shape. Pretty much, the algae muck has broken up and the mats are only here and there along the shore. Note - Don't overlook these areas. They are worth searching out. Some bass fishermen have been doing pretty good fishing a weedless topwater lure over the weeds. The strikes have been occurring when the lure breaks into a clearing or the outer edge of the mat. Moving out into deeper water (15 to 25 feet) small swimbaits and drop shot have been producing some strikes under single docks. LV500's and underspins along with chatterbaits have also been producing good numbers of bass. You might have to go through several one pounders to get to a three to five pound fish. Lots of fun! Keeps you on your toes.
Also, have received reports of catfish being caught off the docks in the Lucerne/Indian Beach areas. Chicken livers and crawdads with a bobber have been working best.
LAKE MENDOCINO - Our backyard lake is wonderful right now. It is great to see the lake so full for this time of year. The early morning hours continue to be the best hours to fish. For fun, try a little topwater fishing before 8:00 am . Smallmouth bass have recently become attracted to anything with a chartreuse color on it. Keep moving and cover a lot of water until you find the fish. The fall feeding frenzy has not started yet.. The water temperature still needs to drop another 10 degrees… Several of the bass Teresa and I have caught have had full bellies.
Still hear that the faithful folks that fish the river channel have been hooking into some catfish and an occasional striper using anchovies. Go get on the water, right now is some of the best fishing this season.
LAKE SONOMA - The bass fishing continues to pick up. Many bass in the one to four pound range are being caught. They are hanging out in ambush spots. Pay close attention to points and fish along the edges of submersed trees. Cherry and Yorty Creek areas continue to be the hot spots.
With the kids back in school and the cooler weather the traffic on the lake is down. Like all the lakes in our area, the fall fishing is coming on right now.
