The Vallejo SWAT team was deployed Saturday following reports of a man brandishing an assault rifle at South Vallejo residents.
Police responded around noon to reports of Rahul Kumar walking around the 100 block of Ladera Drive with a large firearm, the Vallejo Police Department said in a press release. Kumar, who had a warrant out for his arrest for other alleged crimes, reportedly entered a home and refused authorities' commands to exit.
Police said SWAT officers deployed chemical weapons, causing Kumar to flee out of the back of the residence. He was arrested and booked in the Justice Center Detention Facility in Fairfield.
Kumar faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon, making terroristic threats and brandishing a firearm, as well as animal cruelty and grand theft. His bail, according to the Solano County list of inmates, is set at $84,177.
"The Vallejo Police Department would like to thank the members of the community who supported and assisted officers at the scene of the incident," police wrote. "Their contribution and involvement helped officers bring this matter to a safe resolution."
Authorities are asking anyone with information on this case to contact Officer Manuel Gonzalez at (707) 656-1675 or Manuel.Gonzalez@cityofvallejo.net.
