The title pretty much sums up what life is and has been around the "old homestead" here on the shores of the Bay of Fundy for the past while.
We did take a three-day mini trip across the Northumberland Strait to Prince Edward Island.
Over the years, we've tripped to all four corners(north, south, east, and west) of PEI, but this time we focussed more on the Charlottetown area and what we could call the more central area of the island.
One of the great things about PEI(and there are many great things) is that places tend to be only a short drive between them. For example, from Charlottetown(the largest city) to say the north shore area around Cavendish(Anne of Green Gables country) is only about 35 minutes, although it looks so much further on a map.
Lynn and I often joke that it doesn't matter where you are on PEI you're only 30 minutes away from where you want to be next.
We stayed in downtown Charlottetown at a wonderful boutique hotel called "The Hotel on Pownal" located shockingly on Pownal Street. I was actually quite surprised that we managed to get two nights there in the middle of summer. It usually is completely booked all summer long, but luck was apparently with us, and we managed to snag Monday and Tuesday nite last week(although I had booked it two months ago).
Our three days tended to be pretty laid back for the most part. One thing we realized, or perhaps should have realized(although I do find it strange) is that many craft shops or galleries which for the most part rely on tourist dollars are not open on Monday and Tuesday. With such a short tourist season, basically July and August, I would have assumed that every bloody one would be open close to seven days a week. Apparently not.
Not that it presented a major challenge, as many places were open on Monday and Tuesday. We just found it somewhat unique.
We had been to PEI back in mid-June to the Greenwich portion of Prince Edward Island National Park, so we didn't hit that area of the island this time. We had a number of spots we wanted to check out and then if we happened to think of someplace else or see something along the way....... we simply went there or stopped there.
So, without going into a ton of detail about everything we did and went to, here are a few pics of our trip.
One of the things we love about living where we are at the "old homestead" is we're just a couple of minutes over two hours from our door to downtown Charlottetown. Given that it is more or less the same time frame as going to Halifax, we'd love to head off the PEI far more often than we do.
What stops us?
The $50.25 toll fee to leave PEI on the Confederation Bridge does play a large role, unfortunately.
It doesn't matter if you take the ferry or the bridge, it is essentially free to set foot on the island, but best to have a few dollars kicking around in your pocket to leave. Kind of making fun here, a few days on the island does make the $50 fee seem worthwhile.
We did talk about perhaps a trip in the wintertime. There might need to be a bit more planning for a mid-winter trip of a couple of days, as many sites and seasonal businesses are closed and shuttered until the late spring.
So, there you go. Not much new.
We have one last short trip for the summer this weekend(Friday and Saturday) to the Annapolis Valley area and south to Digby and return home via the South Shore, including Mahone Bay, Lunenburg, and Halifax. Part of this trip is to check out a home that we almost put an offer on, in the Village of Bear River. We were oh so close to moving there.
Lynn says, if we drive by and we see people outside, we're going to stop and see if they'll show us the house.
--as always with love--
