Turns out Bob Myers won't be sitting still for long.
The long-time Warriors executive who stepped away from his post as general manager and president of basketball operations this summer has already figured out some of his plans for the upcoming NBA season.
Myers will join ESPN's NBA coverage for the 2023-24 season as a studio and game analyst, the network announced Monday morning along with several other sweeping changes to its NBA game and studio coverage plans.
Myers' duties have him as being part of the rotation of commentators on NBA Countdown. He will also call games during the regular season.
The two-time NBA Executive of the Year couldn't be immediately reached for comment.
Myers, the architect of four championship teams, announced in May that he would be leaving the Warriors after 11 years and nine grueling playoff runs when his contract expired at the end of June. Golden State promoted Mike Dunleavy Jr. just over two weeks later to be the team's new general manager.
Myers isn't totally new to the media world. Along with dealing with reporters for more than a decade, he dipped his toes in the industry last season, recording a 13-episode podcast series, titled "Lead by Example."Myers' hiring might be ESPN's most notable offseason acquisition in the minds of Warriors' fans, but it wasn't the only major addition for the network, which also added long-time NBA coach and 2008 NBA champion Doc Rivers to its lineup.
Rivers, who was fired as the Philadelphia 76ers head coach in May, will team up with Hall of Fame broadcasters Doris Burke and Mike Breen to form the network's lead commentator team. With long-time reporter Lisa Salters joining them on the sidelines, that trio will call the NBA Finals, Eastern Conference Finals as well as several other marquee games.
In other news, Malika Andrews has been appointed to lead all ESPN and ABC NBA studio coverage. Andrews has quickly risen from reporter to host of her own show, NBA Today. She'll maintain her post as NBA Today's anchor while adding host of all of ESPN and ABC's NBA Countdown shows to her résumé.
