The Vallejo Police Department announced on Tuesday that Joseph Gomez has joined as its Deputy Chief.
Gomez has 37 years in law enforcement. Originating from Fresno County, he previously served the City of Selma as its Police Chief and also served for 32 years in that police department.
He was ultimately promoted to Police Lieutenant, serving as the Gang Task Force Commander, Nighttime Field Commander, Violent Crime Impact Team Commander, Department Public Information Officer, Command Adjutant to the Chief of Police, and Policing District Operations Commander.
"Deputy Chief Gomez's commitment to education and knowledge sharing is exemplary," a City of Vallejo news release stated. "Since 1995, he has served as an adjunct faculty member at the State Center Community College District, imparting his expertise in various domains, including Use of Force, Patrol Techniques/Operations, Physical Training, Emergency Management, Scenario Management, and the Field Training Officer Course."
Gomez holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Administration and has completed 36 units in graduate Public Administration. He is a graduate of the Peace Officer Standards and Training Command College and the Peace Officer Standards and Training Sherman Block Leadership Institute. Furthermore, Deputy Chief Gomez has successfully completed Executive Leadership courses for Police Chiefs sponsored by the California Police Chiefs Association.
