A Ukiah woman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence Saturday after allegedly trying to evade an officer, the Ukiah Police Department reported.
According to the UPD, an officer saw a vehicle in the 1000 block of West Perkins Street around 1:15 a.m. April 8 with what he determined was likely fraudulent registration tabs, as records indicated that the registration on the white Honda Accord "was expired as of two years ago."
When the officer tried to stop the vehicle, however, he reported that the driver accelerated in an apparent attempt to evade the officer, who initiated a pursuit.
The Honda then headed "eastbound across town at speeds as high as 70 mph with a disregard for traffic control devices and the public." While heading north on North Orchard Avenue, the vehicle collided with a cement curb at the intersection of Brush Street, and "remained in contact with the curb for approximately 100 yards, (causing) extensive damage to the vehicle."
The UPD reports that a "high-risk traffic enforcement stop" was then initiated and the driver was detained.
The driver, identified as Marissa J. M. Diaz, 27, of Ukiah, was described as "displaying objective signs and symptoms of alcohol intoxication," having a driver's license that was suspended/revoked, being on probation and having a misdemeanor warrant out for her arrest.
She was arrested by the UPD on suspicion of "recklessly evading police officers, displaying false registration tabs, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended/revoked driver's license, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, violation of probation and for her warrant."
After being medically cleared at Adventist Health Ukiah Valley, she was booked into Mendocino County Jail.
