This is the wisest advice I have ever seen. It's something I have worked hard to adopt in my life. I was that person who used to judge and accuse. It was a habit, an ugly one, and I'm glad I became aware of it. However, because I had that habit for decades, it's taken me decades to overcome it. And, I needed to practice the pause to help me be less judgmental.
Assumptions, those go hand-in-hand with judging. When you make assumptions about people, you are judging them. It's better to not. How could you stop yourself from doing that? Pause.
Stop that train of thought. Stop those words from being spoken and that gossip from being spread. Pause. Stop it with you.
When you pause, and think before you speak or act, you could break the cycle of judgement, assuming, and accusing. You could give yourself time to find facts, and learn more about the person about whom you were making assumptions.
There is no harm in remaining silent. Your silence could make you feel good about yourself. And, it could prevent ill feelings in another. Be a good person - practice the pause.
