There once was a ship with a lonely sail
faded white like a weathered bridal veil
got caught up in a hurricane gale
if you think of me please wish me well
how I wound up there is a sorry tale
the story of just how far I fell
now I'm halfway on my way to hell
if you think of me please wish me well
I'm bailing water with just one pail
I survive on rum and bread that's stale
think I caught a glimpse of a mermaid's tail
if you think of me please wish me well
NaPoWriMo Day 10 Prompt: Write a sea shanty (or shantey, or chanty, or chantey — there's a good deal of disagreement regarding the spelling!) Anyway, these are poems in the forms of songs, strongly rhymed and rhythmic, that sailors might sing while hauling on ropes and performing other sea-going labors.
