Good morning everyone! Happy Friday! I know this is our DIY day, however, things got a bit mixed up this week so we will skip the DIY until next Friday. It is a beautiful, sunny morning here with that nice spring feel and smell. So nice! That is solitude. The robins are singing, the Evening Grosbeaks (about 70 of them), and Purple Finches (about 50 of them), have been here all morning so far, as they have been all week.
Other birds are here as well and I hope to get some pics of different sparrows today while the sun shines. There are not many juncos around anymore, most have moved on, spreading out and moving north to all their breeding areas. There are always some that stay and nest around the area here and I see them whenever I walk to the river.

This would be a great day for a walk, but I might wait until next week before beginning my regular trips to the river. My new can of bear spray arrived yesterday, the price has gone up a bit. Naturally. But it is still worth it. The pair of Pileated Woodpeckers were around again yesterday, for quite a while. Such a big, beautiful bird. And to be just 6 feet away from the male is really quite exciting for me.

The female seems to be a bit more nervous about coming down to the suet feeder than the male. I would love to find their nest, that would be quite fascinating. Plus I would be able to get pics of the babies as they stick their heads out of the entrance hole. They would need a large tree for nesting, and there are lots of them across the street on the way to the river.
My pictures of ducks did not turn out good, not at all. Too bad really. They were Hooded Mergansers and they are not seen too much around here except in spring migration. They do nest on the lake however. I saw them on the river a couple of years ago too, but those pics also did not turn out. Odd. I can get pics of other ducks fairly easily, but not these ducks. Oh well.

One of these days I will get them. Hopefully I can add several more birds to my list this year. I have a list of birds that I especially would like to get this year, plus other animals too. I was able to get quite a few last year. We will see how many I can add this year. Listening to that chorus of birds outside...that is solitude. I hope you all have a fabulous Friday and God bless!
