KELSEYVILLE — Brock Barrick faced just four batters over the minimum while pitching the Kelseyville Knights to a 9-0 victory over the Clear Lake Cardinals in North Central League I varsity baseball action Monday afternoon at Lloyd Larson Field.

"He's a great pitcher," Clear Lake coach Brian Horne said of Barrick, a sophomore who struck out 10 Cardinals and didn't walk a batter. "He gets outs. He just doesn't throw, he pitches."

Barrick limited Clear Lake (1-1, 3-3) to four hits, all singles. Hank Ollenberger had two of those and Jesse Hayes and Greyson Wind one apiece.

Kelseyville (2-0 league, 5-5 overall) supported Barrick in the field (only one error, one double play turned) and at the plate with 13 hits. Tyler Bryant went 3-for-4, Jon Dougherty went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Joey Gentle went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Barrick also helped himself with two hits and two RBIs.

"That's a huge one for him," Kelseyville head coach Billy Shaul said of his No. 3 hitter, Bryant, another sophomore. "Hopefully that gets him going."

Added Horne, "They had their offensive game plan and they executed it."

The first seven batters in Kelseyville's lineup had at least one hit each and the No. 8 hitter knocked in a run.

"They have a lot of athletes," Horne said.

Ollenberger, the Clear Lake starting pitcher, went 3 1/3 innings before giving way to reliever Jacob Horne. Ollenberger allowed all nine Kelseyville runs as the Knights scored early and often. They led 3-0 after one inning, 5-0 after three innings and 9-0 through four innings.

"Barrick retired them one, two, three in the top of the first and we sent eight batters to the plate in the bottom of the first," Shaul said.

Both teams are on the road Friday. Kelseyville visits Fort Bragg and Clear Lake travels to Cloverdale.

"We've had some bad things happen to us over there the last couple of years," Shaul said. "Hopefully we do better this time."

In other NCL I baseball action Monday:

Lower Lake 7, Cloverdale 1

At Cloverdale, Jordan O'Keefe did it all for the Lower Lake Trojans in their league road win over the Cloverdale Eagles.

O'Keefe not only pitched a three-hitter, but he went 3-for-4 at the plate, scored three times, drove in a run and stole three bases.

"He was in a zone all day long," Lower Lake head coach Mark Peterson said of O'Keefe's day on the mound. "He was in a rhythm."

Locating his fastball with great efficiency and mixing in a few curves, O'Keefe worked ahead in the count all game and induced 10 groundouts while striking out four and walking four.

Lower Lake's defense committed only one error.

"Put the ball in play and let your defense work for you," Peterson said. "That's what he did."

Second baseman Charles Jones and shortstop Jett Guralas handled everything hit to them, according to Peterson. "Our up-the-middle play was great."

The game also ended with a defensive gem as senior catcher Quintin Gutierrez picked off a Cloverdale runner at first base.

Lower Lake (1-1, 4-2) has more wins this season than it had in 2020-22 combined (three). The last time Trojans won more than four games in a single season was 2017 (10).

"They never put their heads down, they listen to everything the coach says," Peterson said. "We want to keep it going."

Weather and field conditions permitting, the Trojans play a non-league game Thursday against Technology (Rohnert Park) before returning home Friday to take on Willits in a league game at 4 p.m.

M'town 10, Fort Bragg 10 (game suspended)

At Middletown, Jacob Urbina was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie the score at 10-10. After teammate Aiden de Jong just missed winning the game when his sinking line drive was caught in center field for the third out, the Mustangs' game with the Fort Bragg Timberwolves was called because of darkness.

Middletown head coach Tyler Holt said he didn't know if the game would be completed April 21 when the Mustangs visit Fort Bragg for a regularly scheduled game against the Timberwolves.

"This is the first time this has happened to me," Holt said of the suspended game.

Middletown erased 5-0 and 9-5 deficits against Fort Bragg. The Mustangs scored four times in the bottom of the sixth to get even at 9-9. Both teams scored a run in the eighth.

"We managed to turn it around and bring it back," Holt said. "We hit the ball ... we should have won. There were a number of times we could have taken that game but it just didn't happen for us."

The Mustangs banged out 14 hits, led by Jesse Young, Hunter Hartzog and Jon Hawkins with three apiece. Hawkins doubled twice and drove in four runs while Young had a RBI and scored three times. TJ Allred (2-for-4) knocked in two runs and scored the tying run in the bottom of the eighth.
