I really cannot believe it's almost time for spring again- while the weather here was in the 80's this week, it's now turned cold again. Everything is blooming and beginning to flower, though. I hope our cold snap doesn't last terribly long, though.
Today, I want to share some of my favorite spring cleaning tips. I work a full time job in addition to operating our produce farm, so I do not have a lot of free time. I do use a lot of my spring break to complete big cleaning projects, but I try to sprinkle in minor spring cleaning tasks when I can. Even if you don't have loads of time, you can still do some significant cleaning. These tips can help you get some spring cleaning done.
1. Multitask
If you're watching a movie or a ball game, take a drawer out and organize it while you watch. You can also use commercial breaks to organize a bookshelf or a kitchen drawer. I like to throw clothes in the dryer and see how many drawers or cabinets I can clean out while the dryer cycle is running.
2. Involve the kids
Most of us want to wait until our kids are not around to purge their rooms, but I have recently started allowing them to purge their own books and toys (but I still do the clothes). I was initially afraid this wouldn't go well, but they actually enjoy it.
3. Make a Sunday afternoon project
A Sunday afternoon is perfect for cleaning out a closet-just enough time to get one closet cleaned out and organized. You could also organize a dresser or cabinet too.
4. Focus on one room at a time
You can focus on one area of the house at a time, and do one small thing each day for a week. Currently, I am cleaning out one cabinet and drawer a day. It will probably take me longer than a week, but I'm ok with that.
5. Be realistic
Don't expect to finish a big project in one day when you have other things to do. If you don't finish it when you think you should, don't worry about it. Give yourself some grace and know it's going to be ok.
