UPPER LAKE— Taylar Minnis did her usual solid job inside for Upper Lake, and the Cougars' guards took care of the rest in a 52-19 North Central League II varsity girls basketball win over the Credo Gryphon on Tuesday night at Upper Lake High School.
The Cougars improved to 10-0 in league and 21-1 overall with their 14th straight win. Upper Lake has four league games remaining as it closes in on a third consecutive NCL II championship.
"Taylar had a good solid game," Upper Lake co-head coach Annie Pivniska-Petrie said of her senior center's team-leading 16 points.
Pivniska-Petrie also was pleased with the play of the team's guards, starters and reserves alike.
"I was happy with the shots we were taking, they just weren't falling in the first half," Pivniska-Petrie said.
Upper Lake had the game well in hand at halftime with a 25-6 lead as its man-to-man defense held the Gryphon in check.
Madison Noble had seven points for the Cougars, Maddy Young added five while Nya Marcks, Karla Martin, Kat Lopez-Geary, Kali Minnis and Jayme Zimmerschied each had four.
Upper Lake hosts Tomales on Friday in a varsity-only game. The Cougars also have three games next week, including home-and-away contests with Roseland Collegiate Prep and another against Technology.
The Cougars' league-champion junior varsity team beat Credo to close out league play and its 2022-23 season undefeated.
