A Covelo man was arrested after an alleged crime spree in Round Valley that included a robbery, assault and possible arson, the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office reported.
According to the MCSO, deputies were dispatched to Keith's Market in the 76000 block of Highway 162 in Covelo around 7 p.m. Feb. 24 for a report of a physical altercation near the store's entrance.
Upon arrival, deputies learned that a man identified as Markas Capskis, 24, of Covelo, had allegedly stolen items from the business and was confronted outside by an employee and a witness. Capskis then reportedly attacked both men (one 75 years old and one 25 years old) with a glass bottle of alcohol. The employee subdued the suspect, but Capskis managed to flee the scene before deputies arrived.
While deputies searched the area for Capskis, they received more reports of crimes in the area, and suspect that "prior to the Keith's Market incident, Capskis had been walking south in the 79000 block of Highway 162, where deputies received reports of vandalized businesses, a possible arson at the Round Valley Health Clinic and multiple reported burglaries."
Around 11 a.m. the following day, Feb. 25, Capskis was located by deputies and arrested on suspicion of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, elder abuse, felony vandalism and violating his probation, all crimes related to the incident at Keith's Market.
Capskis was booked into the Mendocino County Jail under $50,000 bail.
The MCSO notes that deputies are investigating "the other reported crimes and are working closely with the Ukiah Valley Fire Authority arson investigator in an attempt to determine the cause of the fire at the Round Valley Health Clinic."
The MCSO also issued "special thanks to the Round Valley Tribal Police Department for assisting in locating Capskis."
