8th Day of Christmas and A Happy New Year

Here we are! Beginning a new year. A fresh start. Resolutions. New beginnings. I like the idea of making resolutions and aiming for improvements in my life. What better time than the beginning of a new year?

I've never kept a written diary although I've tried more than once in my younger years. Blogging has helped me in that respect. I'd rather type than sit down with a pen and paper. Keeping up with my blog is good for discipline. I miss a few days here and there, but I've maintained a streak lasting to date over two months. I think that is the longest I've ever managed to keep up blogging.

Blogging gives me something to focus on, something to look forward to each day. Sometimes I can sit down the evening before, write something and schedule it to post the next morning. Most days I prefer to wait until I get up and wing it so to speak, whether it's before 6 am or after 10 am. Once or twice it's been quite late in the day before I sat down to write a post.

Another area of discipline for me is doing a better job of keeping up with my knitting and spinning projects and not allowing several different things to pile up into an overwhelming number of Un Finished Objects, aka UFO's. I ended 2022 with a finished cowl so I can put that in the win column. That's not the only cowl I knitted in 2022 but it was something I wanted to finish and I accomplished that goal.

I have a Prayer Shawl out of some of my hand-spun yarn, a Ludlow Shawl out of Indie dyed fingering yarn, a Hitchhiker Shawl out of Fishknit's fingering yarn, one pair of socks that need the lace ribbing finished out of Fishknit's yarn, one pair of socks that need the ribbing finished out of another Indie dyed fingering yarn, a Harry Potter Scarf out of commercial fingering yarn, a Doctor Who Scarf out of commercial sport weight yarn, and a Ten Stitch Blanket out of DK yarn. All of those projects need to be finished and making a list keeps it in my mind.

The next step is to make a page in my One Note app for every unfinished project I listed. I have pages for the socks and two of the shawls. I need to create project pages for the other things in that list and make sure I keep the pages updated. I can foresee a day in the not too distant future of a pile of finished projects all spread out on my desk.

One thing I will do this week is look back over my finished project photos from 2022, print them off and pin them to the bulletin board over the desk in my studio for inspiration and to remind myself of what I've accomplished in the space of a year.

I'll address the unfinished spinning projects in another post and make sure I have project pages for them in my One Note app.

So, as I look forward to a bright, New Year and no excuse to be bored I continue to remember that we are still in the midst of the Christmas Season and so I pray that your day is doubly blessed.
