Getting a head start on January's WYSF a few days early...

Q: I'm going to Saint Martin in January and am looking for dresses. Under $250 would be ideal.

A: Tuckernuck has a great collection of vacation-ready pieces in this price range from their house label, Pomander Place. (And you can get 20% off everything with code YOURULE) I love this striped dress (reminds me of Lisa Marie Fernandez), this cover-up with the fun contrasting piping, and this cheerful hot pink ditty. I also got a lot of wear out of this Lake "Patio Dress" on my beach vacation last summer -- throw on over a swimsuit, or pair with strappy sandals and big earrings for cocktails.

It's also worth spending some time digging through sale sections for great resort labels like Juliet Dunn, Zimmermann, Celia B, and Farm Rio -- a few great snags I found doing some recon for you:

THIS TIE-SHOULDERED JULIET DUNN

THIS ZIMMERMANN

THIS POUPETTE ST BARTHS*

THIS FUN COVER UP

THIS FESTIVE FARM RIO

*I can't tell you how popular this exact style was among the women at my parents' country club last summer -- I saw them on so many chic ladies!

Enjoy!

Q: Birthday gift for MIL just a few weeks after Christmas. Out of ideas!

A: I hear you! Two of my favorite unexpected gifts this Christmas were a Mosser cake stand (just gorgeous and so thoughtful since I bake a lot) and a pair of white tulipieres. Both completely surprised and delighted me, and were such elegant, thoughtful gifts since they map to my style and interests so wonderfully, and I'm not sure I would ever have bought them for myself. Those might be a bit niche but also seem like things many women would appreciate. Beautiful objects that they might use themselves!

If those aren't a fit, what about some beautiful (and slightly cheeky) stationery from Dear Annabelle, a Westman Atelier beauty set, a Dudley Stephens fleece in a pretty shade of pink, a set of GIR baking gear and new baking cookbook, or a set of beautiful bow-embroidered placemats?

Q: A warm bathrobe flattering on short-waisted women.

A: I'm not sure if this suggests you are petite? But I find this Weezie robe to be the one I reach for the most frequently -- I'm 5'0 and it is perfect on me whereas many robes, the built-in sash hits too low on my body and makes for a baggy look. I know you said "warm" but the short-sleeves are honestly genius since I never have to worry about soaking the cuffs while washing my face / doing dishes in the morning.

Q: Black pants that aren't leggings.

A: I know many Magpies absolutely love these ponte-material Emerson Fry layering pants. If you need something dressier/for work, I love the stylish fit of this pair from Tuckernuck.

Q: Outfits for myself and a one year old daughter in a "motherhood shoot" in January.

A: So sweet. Baybala has some really beautiful pieces that coordinate versus match. They generously sent me some pieces a few weeks ago and I was honestly blown away by the attention to detail/thoughtfulness of design. (Little things, like making the girl's plaquet buttons actually be snaps so they can get into/out of the dress themselves.). I love the idea of this on you, this on baby. (I wore this and my daughter wore this.). I also love the idea of a dress like this with baby in this. Or go super formal with you in this and her in this, or you in this and her in this.

Q: Hosting best friend's baby shower in January for baby girl! I need a chic/sweet dress.

A: My first thoughts were this elegant Self-Portrait, this Batsheva, or this sophisticated Damaris Bailey. I've also been personally trying to figure out a venue in which to wear this fabulous tweed mini from Self-Portrait, styled over a white tissue turtleneck or crisp white button down (Cher vibes). I also love this Cleobella, this Anna Cate, and this Doen.

Q: A new hair blow dryer.

A: People go crazy over Dyson (<<$50 off here). I talked to my hair stylist about it yesterday and he said he was impressed with it, but that he prefers his Parlux. I would trust his word implicitly -- he is easily the best hair stylist I've ever gone to (Ismail at the George Salon at the Four Seasons in DC) and is a complete perfectionist. I'm still in a committed relationship with my Revlon One-Step tool (currently 35% off -- be sure to get the 2.0 model) but would do either the Dyson or Parlux if I ever pony up the money to upgrade. You didn't ask, but I did just buy this Olaplex heat protectant/styling product on Ismail's recommendation after he used it in my hair! He gave me the SMOOTHEST blow-out ever and I'm determined to recreate...

Q: A date night top.

A: I have been surprised how much I've worn this feather top this season. Looks great tucked into jeans, trousers, a skirt -- but with jeans, it's the perfect not-trying-too-hard-but-still-festive-and-chic moment. I also LOVE this Baum und Pferdgarten. For something a bit more low-key, this Chloe blouse is sexy and comes in several great colors, and I love the silhouette of this Emerson Fry tucked into high-waisted denim.

Q: An easy fleece/pullover for mom life.

A: I would try Dudley Stephens (really get a lot of wear out of mine -- a little dressier than a sweatshirt), Barbour, this fun patterned J. Crew (look for less with this), or this Faherty. Super affordable options: this steal (love the oversized pockets in front!) or this colorblocked.

Q: Maternity pants for a professional workplace, preferably not black.

A: This pair from Hatch would look great with an oversized white button-down, and Old Navy has a pixie-style pair in navy that would be perfect paired with an oversized knit sweater. I also think you could dress these "cargo style" pants up with a navy blazer, button-down, and polished (pointed-toe) flats.

Q: Everyday clothes for a toddler girl (2T/3T) in Chicago!

A: I like ribbed knit leggings like these, these, or these layered over cotton tops with chunky knits on top like this, this, or this. Or you can layer the pants underneath a sweet dress like this with a cardigan on top. I've also had good luck with cute sets from Zara like this. Pair all with Uggs!
