The Elite High School boys basketball team defeated Stone Ridge Christian 68-61 on Wednesday night.
Elite (7-6) started slow and fell behind 13-2, before closing the first quarter on a 10-2 run.
Elite continued to attack the basket in the second quarter and eventually took a half-time lead of 35-24.
Lemack Bellot continued to attack the basket, scoring 11 points in 3rd quarter, to help hold the lead.
In the 4th quarter, key drives to the basket by Savion McCray and fast brake layups by Nah'vay Pittman allowed the Eagles to escape the first round with a victory.
Bellot led a balanced attack with 23 points. Pittman had 13 points and 12 rebounds. Jamaal Mills chipped in 11 points and 8 rebounds, while McCray scored 10 points and had seven rebounds.
Benicia 79, Davis 66
The Benicia High boys basketball team defeated Davis 79-66 in the first game of the Fairfield High Holiday Classic.
The Panthers led 40-30 at the half and never looked back in the win.
Darrell Hurd led all Panther scorers with 20 points to go with four rebounds and four assists, while Jacob French added 16 and nine rebounds and Jake Matteson contributed with 12 points and six assists. James Wong added 11 points, while Kabir Sihota had two blocked shots. and five assists.
Benicia improved to 7-1 on the year with the win.
