I have been saying for some time that red lights no longer mean "Stop" for a count of 5. Lately that has become a count of 10.
I see a new much more dangerous practice these days. Three times in the last month, as I waited for the cars to stop at the red light in the intersection I was to cross, after the oncoming cars had stopped, someone coming from behind them swerved into the left turn lane and run the red light.
Two days ago it was as I was driving north on Amador and waiting at the light on Tennessee. Being cautious, I watched until cars had stopped for the light in all four lanes. As I started to cross. the driver of a large white pickup truck swerved into the left turn lane eastbound on Tennessee at about 35 to 40 miles per hour and ran the red. Obviously, had I not waited, they would have T-boned my driver's side and I most likely would have been killed.
I guess this just reminds us that with our understaffed police force, no enforcement of traffic code, with no enforcement, laws don't apply.
