It does go without saying, that our lives and living them(and yes I include all of us) - is a massively complicated mixture of "stuff" that goes into us breathing, thinking, feeling, waking up, or going to sleep at night. And let's not forget, everything else that goes on in keeping us upright on a day-to-day basis.
And that's not to mention - how the fu@k does one decide what to order on the menu at the pub/restaurant when there are 823 items for just the "Mains" part. Let alone apps and salad. When confusion and indecision reign - usually order stuff you can't pronounce or have ingredients in them that you have no freaking idea what they are - get that....always good; never failed me yet.
Moving along from "how the hell do we decide" ordering in the restaurant, in many ways our lives(in a very broad sense) are much like short and long-term weather forecasts.
Not to sound too cocky or self-assured, but I'm spot on with this - believe me!
This is a screenshot of the weather forecast for yesterday(Wednesday, Nov 2). It was 9 degrees in the early morning with an anticipated high of 14 degrees and sunny into the afternoon. Which ended up being fairly accurate, although it was very windy at the oceanfront. All of which ended up being a pretty fantastic day for the beginning of November.
However, this was the day before(Tuesday) at the new "old homestead."
Although, sort of warmish, nevertheless the entire day was rainy, foggy, misty, and dull...which can be a typical day or start of the day along the ocean and Fundy coast.
It wasn't raining in the late afternoon when I took those phone pics of the ocean down the road from us. But it was misty and certainly foggy. Foggy enough that it was difficult to see clearly; to discern features in the distance. Without a doubt - fog and low clouds obscured everything that we were looking at.
Often our lives can be dull, foggy, and hard to see far off in the distance type of Tuesday. But, then we wake up on a Wednesday morning and the sun is shining, and the temperature is pretty darn comfortable. Wednesday is a good day to be alive.
It would be nice if life was as simple as that, but it's not.
For many moving from a foggy Tuesday to a warm and sunny Wednesday can and will be a long difficult journey. We hope and often pray that perhaps today or the years-long journey we've been mired in will be gone tomorrow. That we can see the early morning light slowing and steadily burning off that fog that has surrounded and engulfed our life for a day or months and yes - years.
Hope - we hold fastly onto hope - that tomorrow will be better than today. That the path we may be currently on in our lives will take a dramatic 90-degree turn and provide a new direction; the direction we are meant to travel.
Around here we do get our fair share of fog, mist, and rain. But, we also get lots of sun and warm temperatures. When it's really foggy, getting disoriented and lost in it - is well.........simple.
But, being lost doesn't mean you're gone. It just simply means you're not where you're supposed to be. When our lives become mired and stuck in some wet, foggy, and misty environment - things become clouded; unsure; hope gets lost in the fog as well.
But, hope isn't gone or vanished - it's simply lost. And if the fog is like a "London pea-souper" - so thick that you can cut it.......the hope we desire and pray to grasp and hang onto might be just a few feet off to the side of you.....but you can't see it. And then something happens.
Slowly, surely and somewhat unexpectedly, the sun starts to peak over that horizon. It doesn't dispel and burn off the fog and mist; nor does it light up the morning sky in a few seconds.....it takes time. But, it always does.
The sun breaks through the clouds; the fog and the mist......like the smallest hint of a smile.
It will.
