LAKEPORT — The Lakeport City Council held a public hearing on delinquent utility accounts during their Tuesday, August 2, 2022, meeting.
The original total before the council meeting was from 18 parcels with delinquent bills, totaling in the amount of $9,227.85
The updated amount presented during the meeting was $8,000 according to the Lakeport Finance Director and Assistant City Manager Nick Walker.
Some of these parcels on the list are from deceased individuals," Walker said. "Some of them are from those who are renting in Lakeport as well.
The accounts have been identified by the Finance Department as delinquent as of May 31, 2022.
In order to collect on these accounts, the city is required to notify the delinquent account holders and give them an opportunity to bring their account current. Utility bills and delinquency notices are mailed monthly. Final notice to delinquent accounts, as of May 31, 2022, were sent to property owners on July 16, 2022.
In other council business, the Lakeport City Council approved to enter into an agreement with the City of Clearlake to provide supplemental law enforcement services due to staffing challenges.
Lakeport Police Chief Brad Rasmussen said this means that there will be Clearlake Police Department vehicles within the city limits who will have jurisdiction to enforce the law.
Rasmussen added this week he was two positions down budget wise.
"We have hired people however we have 4 in training right now. So, we will be short staffed until they are through training," Rasmussen said.
The city of Lakeport will be paying for the services the Clearlake police department provides Rasmussen said. This will be voluntary for those who are on the Clearlake Police Department staff.
There is money saved to make this happen in the Lakeport Police budget due to current short staffing.
Clearlake Police Chief Andrew White said there has been a long history of the two cities supporting each other.
"Whatever way we can support your city and keep your officers safe we are happy to do so," White said.
The city council is also approved to designate disabled parking spaces within the city for the upcoming Lake County Fair.
The fair does not have enough handicap spaces to accommodate the event Rasmussen said. Due to COVID-19 in previous years this has not been an issue to be brought up.
"This approval will provide an additional 20 more handicap parking spaces for residents who want to attend the event," Rasmussen said.
The spaces up for designation are the entire 200 block of C Street, between South Forbes Street and the C Street entrance to the fairgrounds and the entire block of D Street, between South Forbes Street and the D Street entrance to the fairgrounds.
This will start from 4 p.m. Thursday, September 1, through Sunday, September 4, at midnight.
