David Bookout, owner of Wm. D. Jewelers in Ukiah, is a true Renaissance Man. The definition of a Renaissance Man is the notion that humans should embrace all knowledge and develop themselves as fully as possible.
He is passionate about his motorcycle habit and has hosted three Distinguished Gentleman's Rides in Ukiah (2019, 2021 and 2022). This year's ride was Sunday, May 22, worldwide and motorcyclists rode for a cause in the Ukiah Valley.
The 11th annual Distinguished Gentleman's Ride, a worldwide event held in more than 700 cities in 100 countries, gave riders the opportunity to dress their best and ride their classic motorcycles in support of men's health.
"There are so many good things that the Movember charity does for men's health," explained Bookout.
Worldwide, more than 60,000 riders participated in this year's event. The Ukiah team, consisting of 27 riders, raised over $12,000 to contribute to the Movember Foundation, a nonprofit organization aimed at raising awareness of men's health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men's suicide.
"The generosity shown by participants and donors is a tribute to our community," said Bookout.
"For a small community like ours to step up and provide this level of contribution is just amazing – it's also just plain fun. Where else do you get a chance to dress dapper and ride in a beautiful place like our valley?"
Bookout says he's planning to host the ride again in 2023. Anyone interested in participating can obtain more information at http://www.gentlemansride.com.
