SAN FRANCISCO — The Warriors will need to wait, breath baited, on MRI results for Steph Curry's injured left foot. His status is technically unknown, but one teammate predicted Curry's status for Sunday.
Draymond Green hasn't started in two games since his return from back injury on Monday. Presuming Curry out, Green is prepared to make his first start against the San Antonio Spurs.
"With Steph going out that changes things," Green said. "When someone leaves the game to go get an MRI, I don't expect him back Sunday."
The damaging play came after Boston's Marcus Smart rolled over Curry's left leg while the two dove for a loose ball. Without definitive answers on his status, here's what his teammates had to say.
Draymond Green
On not getting to play with Curry and Thompson after long-awaited reunion: "It sucks. But sometimes that's how the cookie crumbles. You have to figure it out and deal with it, but boy, it's rough."
"It seems like every time we get someone back, someone is out. One of the most important things on offense is continuity and we haven't been able to do that for the most part. That is 100 percent a worry."
On the Smart play: "I can't call that a dirty play. If that was a dirty play, I would have went and dove into his head. Maybe unnecessary, but that's the most I can call it."
Steve Kerr
Kerr was caught on camera chiding Smart for the play on Curry and for a flagrant foul on Thompson: "I thought it was a dangerous play. I thought Marcus dove into Steph's knee and that's what I was upset about. I have a lot of respect for Marcus. He's a hell of a player, gamer, competitor. I coached him in the World Cup a few summers ago… We talked after the game and we're good, but I thought it was a dangerous play. I just let him know"
Juan Toscano-Anderson
On Curry's injury: "I'm not sure the severity of what happened to Steph. He's a trooper though, so he'll be alright. It's part of the game. It happens. Unfortunately it happens to us a lot lately, but we talk about our depth. We have to make that come alive, we can't just talk about it. Start from the beginning to the last guy off the bench, we have to come ready to play and compete. Injuries are part of the game. We have to take punches on the chin and keep working."
On Jordan Poole, who scored a team-high 29 points, including 19 in the third quarter in Curry's absence: "I think he just has to keep being him. He's a really good player. I'll always be a fan of his. It's his third year in the league, Steph has been in 12, 13 years. That's a huge difference in maturity and being able to lead a team. I don't expect to get the leadership that we have from Steph from Jordan Poole. That's not a knock on Poole, nut saying he's not capable, he's very capable."
Jordan Poole
On Curry's injury: "I didn't even see the play. I'm not even sure, to be honest. We're just hoping he's OK because we need him and don't want to see anyone get hurt. But I asked the same questions you have when I go down there."
