The Boy Scouts of America will be distributing door hangers this weekend for the annual Scouting for Food Drive.

The food that is collected by the scouts and community member volunteers is donated directly to the Woodland Volunteer Food Closet and will be distributed to neighbors in need, according to a press release from the Woodland Food Closet.

"Hunger is a way of life for far too many families in our community," the press release said. "The Woodland Volunteer Food Closet has been assisting with alleviating hunger in Woodland for over 50 years. As we struggle to deal with increasing requests and shrinking resources, we are grateful for the Boy Scouts of America and their coordination of the Annual Scouting for Food Drive."

Door hangers will be distributed on March 5 and 6. The scouts and volunteers are asking residents to place the bag or box of non-perishable donations near the curb for pick up which will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 12.

All food must be sealed, in its original container and not expired. Soups, canned fruit, canned chicken and dry milk are most needed at this time.

Volunteer opportunities are still available for anyone wishing to help on the day of collection. For more information on the event, volunteering, or to receive three days-worth of groceries, contact director@woodlandfoodcloset.org or 530-662-7020.
