This season provided a great opportunity to test out KUIU's Axis Hybrid Hooded Jacket. In the Sierras and the Rockies, a hunter can experience a wide range of different temperatures and climates over the course of a season or even during a day. Performance in the field can really be impacted by apparel, and good gear goes a long way.

On most days from September through November, I layer up in the morning then shed layers over the course of a day. Despite a layering system approach to apparel, it's still always a goal to keep things to a minimum. This season, the KUIU Axis Hybrid Hooded Jacket was a great jacket for a range of conditions, especially as things cooled down in the high country.

The KUIU Axis Hybrid Hooded Jacket is designed for cold weather, but it might be best described as medium weight. If temperatures are in the low 70s, this might suit you well. If temps are in the 40s to 70, this is likely my go-to with layering. Colder than 40, and it might depend. If hiking a lot, it might still be a good option with layers.

This is a breathable jacket that is designed for active hunters, but the design also takes late-season conditions into consideration. This jacket is wind resistant and is waterproof in some key areas of the jacket. Adjustability in the sleeves, hem, and hoody allow you to keep warmer when needed, and the material feels built to last.

As for other factors such as noise, I would gladly use this jacket throughout rifle season, but I might want a little more quiet during archery season. That's preference on this end.
