Woodland residents are able to attend several community workshops as the Advisory Redistricting Commission considers how to reshape the city's districts.

The five-member commission is tasked with redrawing district boundaries within the city and started its work in early October but needs help from community members to get public input in its meetings. Its five members are each from one of the five City Council districts, which was done to ensure each district had equal representation in the redistricting process.

The redistricting process — conducted every 10 years to ensure each district is substantially equal in population — must be completed by April 17, 2022, using U.S. Census data from 2020.

Community workshops will provide residents an opportunity to share their stories, define neighborhoods and community interests, brainstorm with neighbors and local community groups, according to city staff.

Here are the times, dates and locations of future workshops:

  • 6 to 7:30 p.m., Nov. 8, at Douglass Middle School
  • 10 to 11:30 a.m., Nov. 20, at the Woodland Community & Senior Center
  • 6 to 7:30 p.m, Dec. 1, via Zoom (virtual workshop)
  • 4 to 6 p.m, Dec. 16, at Pioneer High School
  • 4 to 6 p.m., Jan. 11, at Norton Hall
  • 1 to 3 p.m., Jan. 22, at Fire Station #3

The Advisory Redistricting Commission will carefully consider community feedback before making a recommendation to the Woodland City Council in spring 2022, according to city staff.
