St. Mary's County Government's Department of Recreation & Parks (R&P) has opened applications for volunteer coaches for the upcoming Youth Recreational Basketball League. The program, scheduled to run from November 2024 through March 2025, is set to take place across various public school venues and R&P facilities in St. Mary's County.
Volunteer coaches play a pivotal role in this community initiative, aiming to develop young talent and instill a sense of teamwork and passion for basketball. The league caters to children of all skill levels, offering a platform that is both educational and competitive.
Candidates interested in taking on a coaching role must be at least 18 years old and have a solid understanding of basketball fundamentals. The position requires leading weekly practice sessions and managing games every weekend. Prospective coaches are required to register online, fill out a volunteer form, and undergo a background check. Additionally, selected volunteers will need to complete mandatory training designed to equip them with the necessary skills to foster a positive and effective coaching environment.
Applications can be submitted online at www.stmaryscountymd.gov/sports. Further information about the application process and program details can be obtained by contacting R&P Sports Coordinator Zachary Zalovick via email at zachary.zalovick@stmaryscountymd.gov or by phone at (301) 475-4200, extension 1830.
