Daily writing prompt
What do you love about where you live?
Although at first glance, this appears to be a relatively straightforward prompt(I think). But if one was to step back and think a little harder; go a bit deeper - there appears to be or could possibly be more "meat on the bone" so to speak.
Our little village pretty much has all that one needs in terms of getting by day to day.
It has the Co-op(Foodland), a post office, a couple of garages, convenience store, a brew pub, Tim Horton's(coffee), a couple of restaurants, an RCMP detachment, an elementary school, plus a high school. I think those are perhaps the highlights, but not to dismiss or forget the other retail and commercial entities that also comprise the fabric of the community.
But here's the catch or the "meat on the bone". Realistically, most towns, villages and cities of all of these things in them and more.
So, what can make us love where we live.
What differentiates one village or town from another? Can it be the people? Certainly, that would be a prime consideration. Might it be the location? Like in a very scenic area of the country.
Or perhaps, it is something all together different, that makes a person love where they live.
Some element other than physical local or people in it(those types of things) that makes one go, "Yup this is where we're supposed to be?" Something more than what we see or do within the boundaries of where we live.
Personally, it is all of the above for me. The highest tides in the world twice a day essentially at my doorstep. A vibrates art and entertainment community with the town and location.
But, what I love the most(at least I think it is this), is the town represents a new start or a new future. Almost a re-birth if you will. A chance to start over or certainly to engage in a new direction in life. In a way it provides an opportunity or a clean slate in which to grow. All of which is many ways is hard to define.
It is easy to list the elements one would need in order to move to a new location. Just check each one off some arbitrary list and there you go - move there. All should be good.
It's the intangibles that are infinitely harder to get a grasp on. Why here versus there?
But, once you do(if you can), they're just as important, if not more important than whether there is a pizza joint, a four restaurants and a discount store within five minutes of your front door.
--as always with love--
--- get outdoors; find inspiration; discover yourself ---
