Calvert County's Office on Aging has launched a new initiative in collaboration with ServingTogether, aimed at supporting military veterans and their families. Starting August 14, 2024, veterans can access resources and services at the Southern Pines Senior Center without needing an appointment.
ServingTogether, a program of the nonprofit EveryMind, will staff representatives at the center on the second Wednesday and fourth Friday of each month from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The initiative encourages drop-in visits and is designed to streamline the process of connecting veterans to a range of necessary services.
According to Jennifer Moreland, Director of Community Resources, the partnership reflects the county's commitment to its veteran population. "Our desire is to better serve the many veterans and their families in our community who have sacrificed so much for our nation," Moreland stated. "We are excited and honored to bring this partnership to Calvert County and strive to provide the best service to our veterans."
The services offered through ServingTogether include assistance with navigating veteran benefits, connecting individuals to educational, employment, and health resources, and providing referrals to other essential services such as mental and behavioral health support, money management advice, and access to physical health care. The program also helps veterans and their families obtain clothing and household goods.
The initiative is particularly noteworthy for its accessibility; veterans do not need to schedule an appointment beforehand, thereby reducing potential barriers to receiving assistance.
