We normally experience triple digit temperatures through a good part of July and well into August in our little corner of Texas but that is not the case this summer. We've had several rain showers over the past few days and even a downpour in a town near us yesterday lasting over an hour and bringing over four inches of rain! There was flash flooding and roads were closed. Thankfully we missed all that drama on our weekly trip to the chiropractor, the rain had ended by the time we got out and the part of town we were in did not have any flooding.
The rain has brought cooler than normal temperatures and except for the humidity it was rather nice yesterday. It will remain cooler at least until next week with more rain in the forecast, in the lower 70's at night and the lower 90's during the day. The area hay fields should be looking pretty good by now.
Brad got two loads of scrap metal taken to the metal recycling center and an old doghouse dismantled and brought out here to toss on top of the brush pile to be burned at some point, making a big difference in the looks of the rent house that we are fixing up for our son-in-law's father. There is still a lot of work to be done but at least the inside of the house is livable at long last. It will be nice to have someone living there after the house being vacant for several years.
We both have errands to run today. It's been ages since I drove my SUV and I need to drop some things off at the charity shop. I have some slacks that do not fit and some knick knacks that I no longer need. Some of it went to Audrey and the girls but they don't need my Doctor Who collection of movies and memorabilia. I've outgrown my fascination and enthusiasm for the show and there are bound to be folks who would love my coffee mugs, tea pot and other odds and ends. Tastes change over the years and it is time to pass those trinkets and dvds on to someone else to enjoy.
I still have a lot of stuff in the bottom half of the built in cabinet in the dining room to go through and I'm not looking forward to that. I might arrange to have a couple of the grandkids come out to help with that. My days of sitting on the floor and pulling stuff out of that cupboard are over. It's not getting down on the floor that's the problem, it's getting back up off the floor that is awkward.
I've been eyeing some of my hand-spun yarn with another knitting project in mind, namely another circular lap throw. The difficult part is making my mind up which yarns to use! I like the Pi Shawls that Elizabeth Zimmermann popularized and there are some really nice versions available for free download. I have three or four of them from my Ravelry days saved on my laptop. They knit up quickly with size 7 or 8 circular needles and make lovely one of a kind throws or shawls.
This one was done with commercial fingering weight yarn and what I am planning is something similar with more of a worsted weight yarn.
It's time to get moving and think about coffee and breakfast before we tackle our chores today. Hope your Wednesday is a good one. Stay safe. Stay cool. God bless, ya'll.
