Daily writing prompt
What bothers you and why?
Often in life, we do find instances and times when certain things bother us. Often it can be a one-time circumstance that just rubs us the wrong way. Or, it can be that one thing regardless of where, when or if it happens to be the fifty-ninth time - ticks you off.
So, what bothers me and why? Well, first of all, it could very well be prompts that ask me, "What bothers me and why?" Okay, so that doesn't bother really. Or at least not too much.
However, if being pressed for a response(and no one is awake here at 4:00am on Sunday morning when I'm writing this to pressure me), I would say this bothers me the most.
Given the general direction that the universe is currently spinning, the thing that bothers me the most are folks who "play the guilt card."
I'm expressing the "whole guilt card thing" as it seems to be the most prevalent and used tactic at the moment in our lives. Although, it doesn't seem to bother Lynn as much as it often and thoroughly "ticks me off."
As many of you have read in past posts, we've had some challenges in getting ourselves back to Ontario to connect with Lynn's father. Car issues, medical appointments that can't be re-scheduled; other vacation commitments and now the way early addition of Riley to the family. Throughout this ordeal, we've heard, "Will you never visit your father again?; can't you change medical appointments?; can't you travel to Cape Breton another time?; can't you do this or do that?"
The funny thing is Lynn's dad understands or at least he says he does.
And throughout all of this - the guilt card. Making us feel guilty.
This summer(so far), much of this has been out of our hands. Like who would have anticipated a wheel bearing going a day or two before travelling? Well, not me.
We tend to book our adventures early for several reasons. First, we like certain hotels etc. Good accommodations, especially in Charlottetown and the Cape Breton National Park region - book early in the year for the upcoming summer season. So, we book early.
Second, we're retired. Well, for the most part, we are. Working casually for the regional school board doesn't count as work. But, it does deposit a paycheque every two weeks or so. So, what we like to do, is take a look at the summer months(say back in March) and decide let's do or go to this, this and that on these dates. We'll also work in a few day trips to something like the "Halifax Busker Festival(which is upcoming on the August long weekend.)
Others we've discovered in our circle of folks - don't feel the need to plan out where and when they vacay too far in advance. Which is fine if that works for them. But, it doesn't work for everyone. So, we had things firmed up early and it didn't fit with a variety of schedules and other activities ....comes "Why can't you change things to visit" - hence the guilt card.
Lynn and I have bent over backwards to make this work. Fuck, I can give you the daily schedule for Porter Airline's service to Toronto for any day in the summer, we've looked at it so much.
But, sometimes things just happen and it's no one's fault.
But, apparently this summer, it's our fault. All of it is our fault.
Fuck, the "guilt card" bothers me.
There ya go.
It is now 4:29am.
