Wednesday Addams takes to the stage in pursuit of her love affair with Lucas Beineke in the children's musical production of "The Addams Family" opening Friday, Aug. 2 at the Willits Charter School auditorium.
Popularized in the hit Netflix series, Wednesday's teenage character is a heady mix of her gothic family's eccentricities and their acceptance of difference, coupled with the values of honesty and passion of a healthy relationship.
Camp Coordinator Ambria Zeitner and Director Billy Hetherington.
Directed by Billy Hetherington, the show is the centerpiece culmination of the Willits Community Theatre's annual Gateway to the Stage summer camp. The cast includes 35 children ages 7 to 17 who participated in the six-week course covering acting lessons to scenic design, sound and lighting.
Actor Tule Clark.
Hetherington says of Wednesday's central role, "She intends to marry Lucas, a guy from a "normal" family, and she wants to make sure their families get along." Of course things don't go quite as planned. With typical Addams family wickedness, a "truth potion" is accidentally unleashed and the action blows up into a fiasco of surprises – before the two families settle into a happy outcome.

Desa Holt and Bronach Bowles share in the starring role as Wednesday, and Finn Shipp appears as Lucas. The cast also includes Addams family roles of Gomez, Morticia and Pugsley, Uncle Fester and Grandma Addams, along with Lurch, and then also Mr. and Mrs. Beineke. The musical includes numerous solo numbers and an ensemble of 16 actors in roles as The Ancestors, which functions as a kind of haunted chorus.
"The Addams Family" marks WCT's debut production at the charter school's new gymnasium and theatre facility. Performances are Aug. 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 10 and 11, with Thursday, Friday and Saturday shows at 7 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.
Tickets for all shows are $10 and available online at www.wctperformingartscenter.org or at the door. The Willits Community Theatre's 2024 season is underwritten by NC Financial Group, Sparetime Garden Center, KZYX Radio and Jerry Drew Painting, with additional support for the Children's Camp from the Community Foundation of Mendocino County and Vocality Community Credit Union.
