This coming weekend happens to be the August long weekend here in Canada and traditionally marks the halfway point of the summer. As many families and individuals have done already and continue to do is plan vacations and other events and outings to occur during the traditional summer months of July and August.
With July behind us(pretty much) and August looming on the horizon, what vacations and events do you have yet to tackle over the next thirty-plus days or so?
Our summer plans pretty much went down the toilet. No trip back to Ontario; a trip to Prince Edward Island was postponed until September and our hiking trip to Cape Breton National Park was cancelled as well. Other planned day trips and other excursions have also been taken off the schedule.
Yes, getting Riley is a blessing and we're thrilled to have him. But, future travel plans and vacations have taken on an extra level of concern with, "What do we do with Riley?" So, I don't really even think about it. I find it a tad depressing.
In mid-August, I'll will be heading off to Halifax alone for five days to look after our daughter's pets. In many ways, I'm very selfishly looking forward to being alone and in Halifax - the city of opportunity and things to do.
Even going out to dinner now, becomes a challenge in that Riley struggles with being alone by himself. Although, he seems to have been getting slightly better by himself. We have a "nanny/pet" cam we bought and strategically placed to see what he's up to. The problem is Lynn, spends most of the time out looking at the "nanny" cam picture. It kind of defeats going out.
So, this summer has sucked large in many ways. It would be better if Riley had some basic manners training in the past, but he hasn't. Going out with him, he barks at everything and is very hard to walk at times on a leash. He gets very excited and finds it hard to settle down. But, when he does, leash walking isn't too bad.
Anyway, it's half over and in many ways I'm looking forward to getting back to work in some description in the fall.
--as always with love--
