It also meant homemade blueberry pie or peach cobbler made with the fruits we picked ourselves and meals that came straight from pawpaw's garden. Green beans, corn on the cob, tomato slices, and cucumbers soaking in a vinaigrette. The garden was so big that it fed us and still left plenty to "put up" can for later. Her pantry shelves stacked with cans of veggies that would be soup or sides to future meals. She made homemade bread and the washing hung outdoors on the line strung between two trees. Life was simple but simple didn't always equal easy with all the work that went into the simple living but it was worth it. Daily cleaning chores had to be a priority, sweeping, dusting, bathroom tidy up. At the end of the day, the house was tidy and clean and the food had been tasty. The house would be hot though so sitting outside under the trees waiting for the lightning bugs and stars to appear would be the end to the day. I didn't know then the impact those days would have on me now but the older I get, the more impactful they seem to become and I am deeply grateful I had those days. | | | | You can also reply to this email to leave a comment. | | | | |
