St. Mary's College of Maryland has achieved a notable distinction by leading the United East Conference with 121 student-athletes named to the Spring All-Academic Team. This achievement highlights the college's dedication to student-athlete excellence both on and off the field.
The United East Conference announced this year's Spring All-Academic Team on June 17, recognizing a total of 1,164 student-athletes from its 17 full-member institutions, which compete in 14 sports, including four winter and 10 spring sports. This extensive list also includes participants from associate members such as Pratt Institute and Rutgers University-Camden, along with track & field partner members Hilbert College, Penn State Behrend, and Carlow University.
Leading the charge for St. Mary's were the men's lacrosse team, which contributed a department-high 33 athletes, followed by the women's lacrosse and baseball teams with 19 and 18 student-athletes, respectively. Additionally, the men's and women's indoor and outdoor track & field teams combined to place 25 athletes on the list.
Student-athletes must have achieved a grade point average of 3.2 or higher for the spring semester and maintained good standing on their respective teams to qualify for this recognition.
Lancaster Bible College and Penn State Harrisburg followed closely behind St. Mary's, securing second and third place with 104 and 103 student-athletes, respectively, making the list.
The academic achievements of the Seahawks also reflected well in the fall semester, where they ranked second with 70 student-athletes making the Fall All-Academic Team. Despite this strong showing, Lancaster Bible led during the fall season with 97 recognized student-athletes, while Cairn University placed third with 66.
Overall, for the 2023-24 academic year, Lancaster Bible College slightly outperformed St. Mary's College with a total of 201 student-athletes named to the combined Fall and Spring All-Academic Teams, compared to 191 for St. Mary's.
