Daily writing prompt
What time do you go to bed and wake up currently?
Often I get told that I'm "a few bricks short of a full load" for the time that I usually roll out of the sack in the morning. I can attest that there is more than a decent chance that the "a few bricks short of a full load" theory is completely true, but it might also cover more situations in my life than the time I get up.
I spent many years, getting up very and I mean very early for work. Many stretches involved getting up as early as 3:00am. Getting up that early and starting a duty shift before 5:00am, usually meant I was done work by noon or perhaps 1:00pm at the latest.
Experience has also told me that there are "night people" and "morning people."
Lynn is a "night person", while on the other hand, I'm a definite "morning person." Which makes my existence within our marriage a bit of a challenge, if we plan to go out at night. Actually, if we're out at night say at our daughter's pub in Halifax, I can tough it out until just about any time at night - mostly because I'm having fun.
Anyhow, given that I rolled out of bed so early for many years, it is a hard habit to change from and with my naturally "morning person" internal clock, I find myself these days getting out of bed anywhere between 5:00 and 5:45am. Sometimes it might be slightly earlier, say between 4:30 and 5:00am, but usually no later than 5:45.
At night, I do find I get tired and cranky(which is hard to fathom - I know) if we're just sitting around and watching TV. But, again it depends on what we're watching. If it's just some re-run on Netflix, I'll toddle upstairs maybe at 9:30.
If it happens to be something even just a bit more exciting and engaging like a ballgame(Toronto Blue Jays - MLB) or like this week the "Calgary Stampede(The Greatest Outdoor Show In The World)", I'll stay up longer to watch the rodeo.
I am working on staying up longer at night, which I do find is a slow process to make any meaningful gains. But, I do think working away at staying up until 10 or 10:30pm is and could be a wonderful achievement on my part.
While poking a bit of fun in regards to "bedtimes", the reality is each one of us needs as much sleep as one might need. If you're working and the commute is of any sizeable distance and you need to be there say around 8:00am or earlier, you may very well need to be getting up at 5:00am. As such, you may need to be hitting the sack well before 10pm to get anywhere near 7 hours of shuteye. It may be closer to 9pm in reality.
In the big scheme of crap that happens, is it such a big deal, what time you go to bed and get up in the morning? Perhaps.
