What's your definition of romantic?
Interesting(at least I think it is) is that romance is both a noun and a verb. Romance is a thing If you will, but it is also an action.
But, those are just definitions of what romance is. Pretty sterile in fact.
What romance is or a definition of romantic is ....... it is personal.
What might be considered romantic in one relationship, might not fly well with another couple. Also, romance changes and grows as our relationships/marriages change and grow over time.
The romance and romantic gestures early on in a relationship and marriage in many instances might not be the same thirty-five years down the road.
And often it is not the big gestures or big romantic plays, but the little things and often those little seemingly significant gestures that define romance. Any guy can do the big romantic deal on Valentine's Day or the gal's birthday(well, most can). But it takes someone who might be a hopeless romantic that ensure her coffee cup is placed correctly; the coffee pod is in the Kurieg; and there is water in the machine each morning before he leaves early for work.
It doesn't seem like much, but I can confirm with authority a small act like this catches a gal's attention in a huge positive way.
One definition I came across for romance was, "the mutual, ongoing and voluntary interactions between two partners that is characterized by specific expressions of affection and intimacy." Again a pretty sterile look at it.
But there are a couple of points to take away. First, it is voluntary - a person has to decide to do it. Make a decision to create and complete the interaction. Secondly, it is specific - what works for one might not work for another. Each relationship will be different.
Often in relationships, whether you are married or not, it can and usually is the small things that get noticed. Small acts that randomly appear out of the blue, catch someone's attention. Like unexpectedly bringing home for your main squeeze her favourite oat cake when you're out.
