Technically at this time, we were supposed to be back in Ontario visiting Lynn's dad and other extended family and friends. However, through a series of events(like someone(our mechanic) forgot to tell me our car needed a new wheel bearing), we've postponed our westward adventure until later in July.
Ironically, within this series of bizarre events we find even more bizarre and exceedingly unfortunate circumstances which fell into the culdron called family and specifically - father's. Not me.
Early on we informed Lynn's father of dates when we most definitely wouldn't be there. Specifically the month of August was out of the question. That seemed to be okay, given the fact he told Lynn he and his new girlfriend(another sorted tale altogther) where going to the west coast of Canada in August. Logically we assumed July was good to go then.
During July we do have a few committments, including two days in Prince Edward Island, that was part of a Christmas present I got for Lynn. Also are two medical appointments that can't be changed. So we were heading to Ontario the first week of July. However see whole wheel bearing issue above.
So, given the wheel bearing issue(the new part is coming from Montreal), we pulled out the calender once again and it seemed July 24 to around the 31st would work. Let's do that. Here comes the above noted exceedingly bizarre event. Lynn's father told Lynn's aunt ..."oh no I never said August to go out west .....I said July." Well, thats bullshit, because I heard him say August over the phone.
As Lynn's mom said once, "Your Dad says things that pop into his head without even thinking about what he's saying." You see, Lynn's mom isn't around now to correct him or set things straight.
Apparently, he and his new girlfriend will be away when we're there. Now, he's all pissy about his mistake. Which he doesn't or won't admit to. Lynn's aunt suggested we change our vacation dates. I suggested Lynn's dad and the "lover" change theirs. Was met with silence. Lynn aunt also suggested whe come back a second time. I said sure, if someone has a spare two grand sitting around. Crickets.
Family can be wonderful .......but they can also suck and suck large.
From July 2023 ............
First off, our area of Nova Scotia(in fact most of the province) experienced a significant amount of rain yesterday. I mean a lot.
A rain gauge that someone in the town showed over 6 inches(155mm) had fallen during the event and it was still falling. Fortunately, there is no rain falling at the moment and the rest of the week is looking like sunny and warm July-like temperatures.
But, the post isn't about rain.
However, a post on the ever-increasing intensity and frequency of climate events might be appropriate for another time.
Nope, this post will be a short one on road-trippin'.
In about four hours or so, we'll be throwing a few bags in the car and heading the road back to Ontario for a family celebration of life.
At the beginning of May, a close relative of Lynn's passed away very suddenly from a heart attack. This coming Saturday, there is a celebration of life get-together for him. A sad time, but as I pointed out to Lynn and others, the key word here is "celebration." It will also be nice to reconnect with members of Lynn's family.
This time our 1800km(one-way) trip, we'll break up into staying two nights on the road, instead of our usual one night. Over the past year or so, I've developed some sciatic nerve issues in my right hip, that become aggravated sitting for very long periods in the car. Hoping that shortening the travel days will help to lessen the issue.
No other way to see how the "old hip" reacts, than to get in the car and hit the road and start driving.
Posting and responding to folks may be sporadic during the next week, as we will be staying in the land of no internet service - Lynn's parents.
Until the next time!
