Calvert County Parks & Recreation has announced the start of registration for its fall 2024 sports programs, available to both youth and adults. Residents can sign up for various sports until August 4, or until divisions are filled.
Youth soccer is available for both boys and girls, from pre-K through 12th grade. The registration fees are $50 for the Tykes Division, catering to 4- and 5-year-olds, and $73 for all other age groups. Families have the option to choose from south, central, or northern districts for practice locations and game days. Those interested in volunteering as coaches can find more information at www.CalvertCountyMd.gov/CCPRVolunteer.
Girls in grades K-8 can enroll in youth field hockey, which focuses on introducing players to the sport's basic concepts and skills. The cost for this program is $71, and participants are required to bring their shin guards, mouthpieces, and field hockey sticks.
Tennis enthusiasts of all ages can benefit from lessons that start at the end of July. These lessons are taught by Chie Tougas, a distinguished coach with notable credentials, including a Professional Tennis Registry Master of Tennis in Junior Development. The four-week sessions require participants to bring their tennis racquets and water.
A volleyball clinic for children aged 10 to 14 is scheduled to begin on September 22. Priced at $40, the clinic covers essential volleyball skills and takes place on Sunday mornings. Participants need to wear appropriate attire and bring a water bottle.
Adults can join the fall co-rec softball league, with teams costing $770 each. The league features a minimum of 18 games and concludes with a double-elimination tournament. Games are scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday evenings at local parks.
Pickleball enthusiasts can look forward to adult ladder leagues in a round-robin format at Hallowing Point Park and Cove Point Park. These six-week leagues will culminate in playoffs for the top point earners.
Registrations can be completed online at https://calvertcounty.perfectmind.com, by phone, or through the Calvert County mobile app. For further assistance, residents can visit the main office on Dares Beach Road in Prince Frederick or any community center.
