Bowie Baysox catcher Samuel Basallo has been chosen to participate in the 2024 All-Star Futures Game, scheduled for Saturday, July 13, at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. This prestigious event, part of MLB All-Star Saturday, highlights baseball's top prospects, and Basallo will be representing the Baltimore Orioles.
Basallo's selection marks him as the 14th player in the history of the Baysox franchise to be named to the All-Star Futures Game. The last Baysox player to receive this honor was Adley Rutschman in 2021.
In the current season, Basallo has demonstrated remarkable performance. Over 68 games, he is slashing .278/.338/.794, with 11 home runs, 13 doubles, and 34 RBIs. His 72 hits rank sixth in the Eastern League, underscoring his offensive prowess.
Signed as an international free agent by the Orioles on January 15, 2021, Basallo debuted with the Baysox on September 12, 2023. The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native is currently the Orioles' No. 2 prospect and holds the 12th spot on MLB Pipeline's list of top baseball prospects.
