FORT WASHINGTON, Md. — The Prince George's County Police Department's Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a tragic multi-vehicle collision that resulted in the death of 77-year-old Louise Wilder from White Plains, Maryland. The incident occurred on Friday evening in Fort Washington.

At approximately 6:15 p.m. on July 26, 2024, police officers were dispatched to the scene of a serious collision at the intersection of Indian Head Highway and Fort Washington Road. The collision involved four vehicles and resulted in Wilder's death on the scene. Two other drivers involved in the accident sustained serious injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The driver of the fourth vehicle escaped without injury.

Initial findings from the investigation indicate that the collision began when Wilder's vehicle and another vehicle collided in the intersection while traveling in the northbound lanes. The impact caused the vehicles to strike two additional cars traveling in the southbound lanes.

Authorities have yet to determine the exact cause of the collision and are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in the investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has relevant information is urged to contact the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit at 301-731-4422.

The accident scene was chaotic, with emergency responders working swiftly to provide aid and manage the situation. The road was temporarily closed to allow for thorough investigation and cleanup, causing significant traffic disruptions in the area. Local residents and commuters were advised to avoid the intersection and seek alternative routes until the scene was cleared.

For those who may have any information related to this collision, please contact the Prince George's County Police Department's Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit at the provided number.
