Too many have shown President Biden with a low approval rating -- and long before the June 27 debate. Since Biden has a strong record as chief executive – the nation's economy is in much better shape than it was when the convicted felon left office – I assumed the low approval ratings have been related to Biden's age. They might be related to the price of eggs, but I believe some bias against Biden (call it ageism, if you want) influences the Democrats who have given him low ratings. The polling has been too consistent for too long to imagine Biden beating even a convicted felon who inspired an insurrection against Congress to overturn the 2020 election. The polls have gotten worse since Biden's debate performance. And on Friday, when he had a chance to recover during the ABC interview, Biden failed. He was OK, but OK was not good enough to change impressions. And then, at the end of the interview, George Stephanopoulos asked this question: "If you stay in and Trump is elected and everything you're warning about comes to pass, how will you feel in January?" Biden's response: "I'll feel, as long as I gave it my all, and I did as good a job as I know I can do, that's what this is about." No, it's not. It's about keeping the convicted felon and his gang out of the White House. Mr. Biden must step aside. There, I said it. In my column today, I quote two longtime Maryland public servants who have decided, at the respective ages of 78 and 80, to retire after their current terms end in January. They are loyal Democrats and, as I expected when I contacted them, they stand by President Biden. But it's clear to me now that Biden can't recover and convince enough people to vote for him. An open Democratic convention and the selection of new candidates for president and vice-president will convince more people – the ones who like neither of the choices they currently face – to vote, and Democrats will have a far better Election Night in November than the gloom they face right now. This is not an election where a candidate can just "give it my all." Trump is a menace and must be stopped. | | | | You can also reply to this email to leave a comment. | | | | |
