For as long as I can remember, the Friendship Room in our church, which serves as a meeting/gathering room and place to hang coats in the winter months, has greeted occupants with a maroon wall and navy couches. After 30+ years without an update, I was asked to give the room a makeover, and I was so excited to be a part of this project.

The Process
First on the list was putting up a wainscoting around the bottom half of the walls. I thought this would be a beautiful way to add a feature to the space but also keep a traditional style.
Once that was installed, we gave the whole room a fresh coat of paint. A local service, Interiors by Gretchen, painted the entire room Creamy by Sherwin Williams and I'm still convinced that the paint in here alone had one of the biggest impacts regardless of what was installed in the room after!
And then the furnishings begin! After spending a couple hours at our countertop reworking different design layouts, I decided to move the focal points of the room so that a larger walkway could happen and the back corner spaces would be better utilized. Here is the initial mood board for the room:
Welcome, Friends
And here is the final product! My hope is that the room feels warm and inviting for people, while they meet for various church groups, get warm after coming inside from the cold winter, or feel comfort as they mourn a loved one. It may be another thirty years before this room is done again, so the hope to is most of the elements stand the test of time to be enjoyed by many in future years!
If you're interested in hearing more details about the room, including what's inside that wood cabinet that you might not expect, I'll be sharing more on Instagram!
