Daily writing prompt
What is your favorite genre of music?
Many folks, at least the ones I know tend to be into one genre or type of music. Often(not sure what that says about the friends we keep) it tends to be country music or "new country" if you will. Others, although not as many as one might assume, are big into pure rock and bands such as AC/DC.
What is somewhat intriguing is that let's say they're into rock, they'll listen to most of the artists found in the genre. But they really follow and are in tune with for example AC/DC or specifically other bands that have been around for what seems like forever. Artists that have been around for 30, 40 and perhaps 50 years certainly have this enduring quality in the music they have produced over those years(timeless albums that define them or the genre); their live performances and the music they still are cranking out.
My favourite genre of music is the punk/rock field. Bands like "The Clash; The Ramones; Blink-182 and of course Green Day." The rhythms for the most part are loud and brash, while the lyrics(should one read or listen to them) often reflect the sentiments of the world and life in those moments in time - brilliantly written. I tend to be a bit rebellious in my nature.
I will admit, that although punk/rock is my favourite genre, I do have a somewhat eclectic taste for other forms or genres. Often though it tends to be perhaps one song that has a funky feel to it. Hye, when it's the Christmas season, I like Christmas music ....so there!
Music, like all art is intended or should invoke or ignite a level of feeling and emotion in those listening to it or whatever the catchphrase is for "rocking out" in 2024. Today, access to great music(including bands and artists that most of us have never heard of or will hear of) is simply a click or two away on multiple streaming and music access platforms.
Today instead of having shelves full of albums in your living room or den, you can have literally your own personal playlist of thousands of songs, tens of thousands perhaps, nicely downloaded on your phone or streamed from a platform like Spotify.
Listening to music is good for the soul. So is listening to podcasts which I do as well.
