Daily writing prompt
How do you express your gratitude?
Gratitude in many ways, travels both directions ways or in other words, has an impact(positive-warm effect) on both the person receiving and the person expressing it.
Often we hear of some "grand gesture" as an expression of gratitude and I suppose for some folks that is what may be required or "is required." Sort of a situation of "Hey I did something significant(leaves a wide berth for definition) for you, so you better express your gratitude in a grand display." Sort of smacks of selfishness - don't you think?
But, isn't gratitude rooted or takes root in our hearts. We come to be grateful from a place in our soul - our heart.
Given that gratitude comes from deep within our hearts, in my mind the whole "grand gesture" expression just doesn't fit or mess well. In life, often it is the little things that we remember decades later or that end up having the most effect or meaning to us.
The acronym KISS or "Keep It Short and Simple", although perhaps the best example here, does convey the message that gratitude from our heart can be most wonderful and meaningful when it is simply - expressed from our heart and soul - through words, and yes more than words. This will make sense in a bit.
People can see the "grand gesture" as simply that - a grand gesture. And gesture to me, doesn't really connect through to our heart and soul. But as people, we are more than a grand gesture. Don't we communicate feeling and emotion - gratitude through words - yes. But, also through our tone; our eyes; and our body language and such.
Gratitude from our heart shines through not just in words(though important), but also through our eyes; the tone of gratefulness in our voice and our body language. You feel it as the person expressing gratitude, but the person on the other end gets gobbed-smacked by not just the words you say, but "how" your body expresses gratitude. Through your eyes; your body language.
True, honest and emotional gratefulness can't be faked. People can try and I suspect that many do. People can see through fake, just as easily as seeing through a "grand gesture."
Gratitude needs to come and be expressed from deep within us - our hearts and souls.
