The Woodland Girls Fastpitch Softball Association recently suffered a setback in its plans to open a brand new complex near the Woodland Community & Senior Center.
On the evening of June 17, the WGSFA's fields were broken into and several pieces of equipment were stolen. According to board member Adam Kirchgessner, an all-terrain quad vehicle was among the equipment stolen. The ATV was used to prepare the fields, per Kirchgessner.
"It was shocking to see. For someone to steal from girls youth sports is pretty low," Kirchgessner stated. "The league already runs on a shoestring budget, even with rising enrollment numbers. This is a pretty big financial hit for us. All the more reason why we are excited with the progress on our new fields. But there is still a lot of work to be done."
Despite the setback, the WGFSA has moved forward with one set of lights in place and the fields being marked. However, more donations are needed to finish the complex and replace what was stolen over two weeks ago.
