The Calvert Marine Museum (CMM) is gearing up to host its widely anticipated SHARKFEST on Saturday, July 13, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This event promises an exhilarating dive into the world of sharks, providing a unique educational opportunity for visitors of all ages to learn about these fascinating marine predators.
SHARKFEST, one of the museum's signature events, invites attendees to come face-to-face with sharks at the outdoor Corbin Nature Pavilion. Although the Discovery Room will be closed for the day to focus on shark-related activities, there are ample opportunities for younger visitors to engage in exciting fossil hunts around the museum grounds.
The event is designed to highlight the diversity and ancient history of sharks on our planet. Participants will discover intriguing facts about sharks, known as 'sharktoids,' explore evidence of prehistoric sharks, and even create shark-themed crafts.
Throughout the day, the Harms Gallery will host three engaging presentations. These include "Pup Talk," tailored for young explorers; "Meet the Aquarist," which offers insights into the care of these marine creatures; and "Finding and Identifying Shark Teeth at Calvert Cliffs," led by local experts. Attendees are encouraged to check the CMM's website and social media platforms for a detailed schedule of these sessions.
In addition to educational programs, visitors can shop for exclusive shark merchandise at the Museum Store, featuring an array of toys, books, and other mementos. Special promotions include a 10% discount for museum members and a free reusable tote for purchases over $50 (some exclusions apply). Guests can also participate in a fun 'Guess How Many' contest for a chance to win a special prize.
While SHARKFEST is accessible to all, advanced ticket purchases are recommended, and entry is free for CMM members. Please note that complimentary museum passes are not valid during SHARKFEST, and strollers or wagons are prohibited inside the museum for the event.
For those interested in enjoying year-round benefits, including free admission to special events like SHARKFEST, information about museum memberships will be available at the event and online.
