WALDORF, Md. — A highly anticipated High School Glow Night event at Sky Zone Waldorf turned chaotic on Saturday, July 6, when a fight broke out among attendees, leading to police intervention and the use of pepper spray. The event, which aims to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for local teens, was marred by the incident, prompting the venue to implement stricter safety measures moving forward.
Sky Zone Waldorf, known for being the only establishment in the community that regularly hosts teen events, expressed their commitment to offering positive outlets for youth in a public statement. "Amid the ongoing violence in our area, we strive to be a space where teens can come together and have a great time," the statement read.
The event had seen a high demand, with tickets sold in advance online to monitor guest capacity. Due to the quick sell-out of the first two sessions, a third session was added to accommodate more youth and families. However, the night took a turn when a few young people entered the establishment, causing property damage and creating safety concerns.
Despite the presence of two officers and private security hired specifically for the event, a fight among several individuals necessitated police intervention. During the altercation, a young man assaulted a police officer, resulting in the use of pepper spray to subdue the situation.
"We apologize for the impact this incident had on our guests and staff," Sky Zone Waldorf stated. "Moving forward, we will reduce guest capacity and increase security, implementing additional safety measures to prevent such occurrences in the future."
The statement also emphasized the need for community support in maintaining a safe environment. "We ask parents to assist us by conversing with their children about appropriate behavior and accompanying them to teen glow nights. While maintaining a safe environment is our responsibility, we need the support of our community to promote positive behavior and conduct among our youth."
Sky Zone Waldorf's dedication to providing a positive space for teens is evident, despite the challenges faced. Parents and youth have often highlighted the lack of activities available for teens in the area, making events like High School Glow Night a crucial outlet. However, the recent incident has led to reflections on the worth and safety of continuing such events.
The establishment's proactive approach to addressing the issue includes reducing guest capacity at future events and increasing security measures. The cooperation and involvement of parents and the community are also being sought to ensure a safer environment for all attendees.
Sky Zone Waldorf thanked the community for their understanding and cooperation during this challenging time. They remain committed to offering a safe and enjoyable environment for local teens and look forward to hosting more events with improved safety protocols in place.
