In a significant upgrade to how residents and stakeholders access flood risk information, the Calvert County Department of Planning & Zoning has unveiled a new online flood mitigation map system. This advanced tool, powered by technology from Forerunner, provides detailed, up-to-date flood risk data for individual properties throughout the county.
The system is designed to streamline access to critical flood-related information by allowing users to search for a property's flood risk by address. It displays crucial details such as flood zone classification, Base Flood Elevation (BFE), Design Flood Elevation (DFE), and essential flood compliance-related warnings. This feature aims to serve a broad audience, including homeowners, contractors, insurance agents, and realtors, by offering each property a public profile that is easily accessible.
Mary Beth Cook, the Director of the Department of Planning & Zoning, emphasized the department's commitment to enhancing community resources. "Our department worked diligently to provide Calvert County residents this new online map system, with upgraded features that provide a more user-friendly way to access essential, time critical data regarding their property," Cook stated.
The platform also includes a "get help" page, which simplifies the process for users to reach out to their local floodplain management team with queries. By simply entering their contact information and the address of the property in question, residents can directly engage with experts for guidance and support.
The launch of this new system is part of Calvert County's ongoing efforts to ensure that its citizens are well-informed and prepared for flood-related challenges. The county also encourages residents to visit its website for additional floodplain information and educational videos at www.calvertcountymd.gov/Floodplain.
